picking up people from the airport

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

This really gets on my nerve. I flew back to Oakland yesterday from Portland airport, and while I was waiting for my sister to pick me up, I saw people dropping off their love ones to fly out and others coming in to pickup their love ones. However, some people seems to not understand that the area is meant for drop offs and pick ups, not for you to hug and chit chat. If you are dropping off someone, you need to stop the car, let them off and drive away. It is not for you to drop them off, get out of your car, hug them, and get back on your car to drive away. You should’ve hugged them and said your good byes before you are anywhere near the airport.
The same goes for picking up someone. You should stop your car, open your trunk, and sit in your car while they put their luggage away, and get in the car, so you can drive away ASAP. It does not mean you should stop your car, get out of the drive seat, hug them, an get back into your car. You are going to see them for a while. You do not need to hug them right away at the spot, you are only slowing down everyone else, and making everyone crappy. Is really hugging your friend for 5 seconds really worth ruining someone else’s day?

Double dared pepper jelly pork chop (not 30 minutes)

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

A super simple recipe that can be served as both main course or appetizer.

First, you need to buy some pork chops. I suggest getting some loin chops because they are good (at least I think they are good). Season the pork chop with a generous amount of black pepper, and pork seasoning that you can get at any grocery store. Let that season for at least 45 minutes.

Next in a small bowl, scramble an egg with some of these double dared red chili pepper jelly. Dip the pork chop in the egg, and then coat it with Italian bread crumbs. Heat up in a pan some oil, and brown both sides of the pork chop.

Although I am not too sure if it is true, but I think if you just directly baked the pork chop, the bread crumb will just remain bread crumbs and therefore, will taste awful. After both side of the pork chop are browned, transfer the pork chop to a small pyrex baking dish.

Let it bake in the oven at 350 until the internal temperature is 125 degree. Once it gets to 125 degree, turn off the oven. But keep the pork chop in the oven, and let the residual heat continue to cook the pork chop.

To serve it as an appetizer, cut the pork chop into thin strips. Then smother generously some of those pepper jelly on top, and you are ready to serve a killer (sweet and spicy) appetizer.

Making a resturant in 2nd life

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

The other day, as a joke, I was telling a friend of mine that I was going to start a restaurant/cafe called “bluemuffins”. Yup, what other name is more fitting than “bluemuffins”. My friend asked if I was serious about this, and I had to backtrack and said that it was to be in 2nd life.

This got me thinking about actually opening a restaurant in 2nd life. I think it will be a very interesting idea. I did a little google search, and there seems to be actually quite a few restaurants in the game.  I am thinking of actually doing this. Has anyone ever built anything in the game? and also do you have to actually buy the food items like “flour, sugar, and etc” that you would in real life to run a restaurant? Lastly, do you need to hire waiter and waitresses?

If you have ever done this, and somehow you stumble onto this blog (I am assuming you are a graduate student just surfing the web), then please  leave a comment and let me know how do you go about opening a restaurant in 2nd life.

Omlet

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

I have gotten lazier each day. It has been so long since I’ve posted a entry in my blog :-) .
This engineer’s attempt at writing and cooking seems to have failed.

I just chopped potato, onion, garlic, chicken, egg plant, and tomatoes, and put it in a small pyrex bowl (I got this because I was tired of cleaning the bigger one). Heat the oven at 375, and put in the bowl. Let it cook in the oven until the potato is soft.

Next put in spinach, and two eggs  in a bowl. Scramble the egg, and pour it in the pyrex bowl. Let it bake in the oven for a little longer. Once the egg is cooked, bring it out of the oven, and add in some hot sauce and cheese on top. Let it cool, and now you can have omlet for lunch tomorrow.
