Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

30 minutes including cleaning my dishes from yesterday.

Ingredient

1 lb fish fillet

6 shrimps de-veined
1/5 of a white onion

1 tomato

1 green onion

half of a lime

a handful of mushrooms

Cut up the fish fillet into small pieces, and put the fishes in a plate with the shrimps.  Wash the cutting board, and then cut up the onion, tomato, and green onion. You have 24 minutes left to cook and clean.
In a pan, heat up olive oil and put in the onion for a while. Season the onion with salt and pepper. After Sautéing the onion, add in the fish and shrimp. Again let the combination cooked for a while. After the shrimps turn pink, add in the mushrooms.  Again cook for a while until the mushroom is cooked. Add in some white wine, tomatoes, and water. Bring the soup to a boil. After it boil, turn the heat to low and just let it cook. Again season it with some salt, and hot sauce. You should have around 14 minutes left.

Now clean your two plates, and cutting board. About 5 minutes to do. The soup is about done! Now add in the green onions, and let it cook for 5 more minutes. During this time, clean up your dish from yesterday :-) .

Now the soup is done, pour it into a bowl. You are almost done. In the last 4 minutes, you really hurry up, you can clean the pan and even clean the stove top with a little 409.

Done : 30 minutes exactly.

camping and rafting (continued)

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

I am a little late with the post, but here is the rest.

We put in the raft at 1:30pm, but before we can start, we had to discard a lot of equipments. Basically any things that were not essential were to be left beyond in the van. Basically, we left one of the tent, and a lot of our clothing behind. It was a bad idea to leave the tent behind because sleeping out in the open is not fun.

Because I’ve never been in the river before and I do not know how to swim, the first thing I did was to jump into the river just so I can learn what to do when I do actually fall of the raft while going down the river. It was pretty scary for me because the water was pretty cold. But everything ended well, and we started rafting at about 1:30pm. The beginning of the trip was pretty calm, and we pull over for lunch and found a camp site at around 5:40pm.

Once we got out of the river, we started to cook. We made pasta, and carne asada. However, we forgot to bring utensils, and at the beginning, I basically drank the pasta and the carne asada from the bowl. However, Ben made me a set of chopsticks from tree branches, and  it made eating a lot easier. Because the branches were not very straight and I do not hold the chopsticks quite correctly, it was still took some work to eat the pasta.

I was pretty tired, but I didn’t fall asleep right away. While sleeping out in the open air, we heard some sound, and I was a little scare because my friends have been talking about cougars. But since I am writing this, there obviously wasn’t any problem from the cougars.

We woke up in the morning, and made 2 dozen eggs and 2 large sausages for breakfast. We left the camp site at around 9am, and continue down the river. Again the river was calm until we hit the first category 3 rapid. It was scary because we hit it straight on, and I thought I was going to fall off. Again, I didn’t fall off and after that I was not very scare about the rest of the rapids. The next rapid was the Colorado rapid, but we  didn’t quite hit it correctly. The last rapid was rattlesnake, but that was not too bad either. So we reach where we had left the car at around 4:30pm.

Unfortunately, we left the key in the van at the put in point. There was this guy who was heading back to that area, but he wanted to charge us 100 dollars. It was pretty expensive, and we opted to find other people to hitch a ride with. However, we couldn’t find anyone heading back over there. Luckily for us, a very nice gentlemen offer to let us borrow his truck to drive over there ourselves. Tim and Ben went to pick up the van, and they came back at 8pm. While they were gone, we made elk steaks, and pancakes.

Wrap the elk steak in the pancake, and pour honey over it for a yummy treat :-) . The end!!!

IT WAS A LOT OF FUN. I HOPE TO DO IT AGAIN.

red curry fried rice

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Super easy, super fast. Total run time is 25 minute.

Ingredient:

Beef

Cauliflower

Onion

Steamed rice

Egg

Cilantro

Minced garlic – they sell them pre-minced (super time saver).

Slice the beef (flat iron steak) into thin slices, and cut the onion and cauliflower. The time to slice the beef and cut the vegetables is less than 5 minutes leaving you 25 minutes to cook and clean up. Heat up some olive oil with the minced garlic in a frying pan. After the pan is hot, add the beef and onion. Let the beef and onion cook for a while. Season it with salt and pepper.

After the beef and onion cooked for 2 minutes, add in the cauliflowers. Pour a small amount of water into the pan, and let the beef, onion, and cauliflower cook. If you like the cauliflower crunchy, don’t put a lid on. While it is cooking, wash some cilantro and  mince it. After 10 minutes, add in the steam rice. Cook this for a while, and after the rice has heat up, crack an egg into the rice, and mix everything together. Now add in a teaspoon of red curry paste, and let everything cook for another 3 minutes.

The only thing you need to clean is a plate that you will eat the fried rice in, the cutting board, and one pan. This will take about 5 minutes to wash. Now you have 5 minutes of nothing to do. :)
