salute to all the lazy people through history
Friday, February 16th, 2007“Laziness is the mother of all inventions”.
After X years of schooling, I have to say that I have gained a deeper appreciation for all of the lazy people through out history. For instance, if men were not too lazy to make multiple trips to carry their stuff back home, we would never have had wheels or cars. Furthermore, if people were not too lazy to go to the theaters, television would never have been invented.
It is because of people’s laziness that there exist opportunities for engineers/inventors. If people were not lazy, then many of the greatest inventions in history would never have been created. Furthermore, without lazy people in this world (myself included), I will never be able to make a living and survive in the future.
So again, I would like to thank all of the laziest people before me. I think everyone should thank them for all the luxuries that we enjoy today.
Inside china
Wednesday, February 14th, 2007I was watching the PBS special “Inside China” and it is unbelievable the type of corruptions that are happening all over China. There were cases of cover up over AIDS, land grab, and etc. According to the program China has a constitution, but it is almost a worthless set of rules and laws; government officials choose to follow the laws when it is convienent. The most disturbing part to me was the fact that higher officials in central government will actually aid the corrupt local officials to stop local citizens from bringing charges agains the local officials. The PBS special points that if the central communist party allow a group of ordinary people bring a official to justice, then it may create a chain effect in which the central communist party will control of the country.
Although China has experience one of the greatest economic booms in history, over 300 million people are still in poverty. How is it possible for a suppose socialist government to leave so many of its people in poverty? Some people argue that China must maintain its economic boom and become a super power before it can focus on its internal problems. However, I say, if the government does not focus on its problems, eventually there will be some kind of revolution. 300 million unhappy people is a huge huge number. And if these 300 million unhappy people do not see a chance that their children can be happy, then a revolution will take place considering how the welfare of their children is so important to most chinese parents.
But there is a still hope. There are a few but growing number of important people who see the social problems within that needs to be fix.
There are so many problems in this world.
ISSCC
Sunday, February 11th, 2007ISSCC is coming up in just a couple of days. Everyone in the field of circuit design is so excited about getting a chance to hear about the newest, fastest, and most power efficient circuit out there. I use inkspace, powerpoint, and gimp to make this little image to demonstrate just how excited people like graduate students are about the upcoming ISSCC in san francisco.
