Ken’s Artisan Pizza

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I have been reading and hearing quite a bit about Ken’s Artisan Pizza and today I decided to try it for dinner. I think my expectations about the pizza was too high because of what I have read and heard and because Ken’s Bakery on 21st has some great breads. I order a pizza with prosciutto and a Stella. The prosciutto was very good and the thin crust was also good. The wood burning oven gave the pizza a nice taste.

However, not everything was great. Part of my pizza crust was burnt and it did not taste that great. I had to cut part of the crust off and that took more effort than I like. In addition, I did not find the pizza sauce to be anything special. I think that pizza hut’s sauce is just as good. In addition, the cheese on the pizza was so so – nothing amazing. Ken’s Artisan Pizza is still not as good as Cheeseboards in Berkeley.

Maybe my oppinions are highly biased?

Ramona Fall

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I went hiking last Saturday to Ramona Fall, which is right by Mt. Hood. We arrived there at around 2pm. After walking about 1.2 miles, we tried to find the bridge to cross the river. However, the trail must not have been officially opened because we didn’t find any bridge. My friends were my daring and cross the river (a small river) on a small tree trunk. However, I was not as bold, and I had to back track to cross on a bigger tree trunk. Even on the bigger tree trunk, I was not comfortable because I was afraid I might fall into the river.

After we cross the river, we started our hike to the waterfall. We decided to pick the longer trail to the water fall because the hiking book said to do so. But going through the longer trail was a mistake because the entire trail was covered with snow. My shoes were not waterproof and by the time we arrived at the waterfall, my shoes and shocks were wet. I had to walk back to the start of the trail in wet socks and shoes; it totally sucks. However, it was worth it because Ramona Fall is truly beautiful. If you ever visit Portland in the summer time, you should definitely go there.

Me standing next to the fall. I was totally tired out when we got there; walking through snow is hard.

fried twinkee, elephant ear

Friday, July 27th, 2007

I wasted 5 dollars today going to the washington county fair out in hillsburrito. Man it was quite lame because I went by myself. They had these animal farms with cows, sheep, and etc. I thought they were slaughtering them and selling fresh meat. Man I made a big fool out of myself when I asked them if I can get some steak. These animals were there for kids to see. Next time, remember they do not sell meat directly at the county fair.  And they definitely do not kill the cow at the spot.

At least I finally to go try elephant ear. Elephant ear is basically a deep fried pastry with sugar. It was ok, not the greatest. Then I had the  deep fried twinkee which was pretty bad. There was just too much breading. I mean, you already for the “cake” part of the twinkee, why would you need more breading? I think I make better fried twinkee.
