Geek at Heart
Thursday, November 9th, 2006I have been super lazy.
I guess I am really a geek at heart. I was walking from my office in Cory Hall to meet up with people in project group. I was walking along when I saw this somewhat chubby person ridding his segaway. Then suddenly, I remembered getting an email telling us that Steve Wozniak was coming to Berkeley to speak. I was not too sure if that it was really the Woz, so I just said to him “You are Steve Wozniak right?”. He stopped his segway and shook my hand. For some reason I was happy that he stopped and shook my hand. Now I realized that I was happy because I am a geek. He is like Michael Jordan to geeks.
Bunguts
Thursday, October 26th, 2006What are bunguts?
It seems that I will not finish my master project before december. I am quite unhappy about this. It is taking me way too long to get my master’s degree. There are so many books in the market today such as “Linear Algebra Demystified”, “Biology Demystified”, and etc. There should be a book titled “Graduate School Demystified”, and I will be the first person to line up and buy it. I want to finish so badly and move on with my life, but it doesn’t look good.
Half dome
Sunday, September 17th, 2006I am getting super lazy lately. I really need to write more often.
I went to Yosemite last weekend with a couple of high school friends. It was a fun and interesting trip. We arrived on Saturday, and went up to glacier point to take a couple of pictures. A couple was actually having their wedding ceremony at glacier point. I thought that it was pretty cool to have the wedding ceremony up there, but a couple of friends thought otherwise. We got back to our camp site around 8pm, and tried to start a fire. Unfortunately, I guess it takes two electrical engineers, one chemical engineers, one information science engineer, and a nice camper with “kindlings” to start a camp fire. What the heck are kindlings anyways?
We had our dinner which consists of pizza, some bulgogi (I am not sure if I spelled it correctly), and a couple of drinks. By around 10pm, we were ready to head to sleep. We made sure that all of the foods were safely stored in the bear box, and double check to make sure that there weren’t any food or drinks in our tent. I was really tired that night, and I did not want to have to wrestle with the bears
. One of my friends couldn’t sleep because of my super loud snoring. The guy lived with me for 3 years and we shared a room, and yet he still couldn’t handle my snoring. Did my snoring get more powerful or has his tolerance decrease from all those nights that he got to sleep in peace since we stopped living together?
We tried to start the half-dome hike Sunday morning at 7am, but we didn’t arrive at the trail until 8am. Long story short, I still didn’t make it up to half dome. I did a lot better than the other time that I tried the hike. I guess the third time will be the charm. Anyhow, it one of my friends and I arrived back at our camp site at 8pm. I guess we were up in the mountain for a good 12 hours. But at least we didn’t get lost like our other two friends who actually made up to the top.
Shai Agassi’s Talk
Thursday, September 7th, 2006I went to a talk by Shai Agassi. It was very interesting to hear from him about his experiences at his startup and his experiences at SAP. There were 3 points that was mentioned which I still remember and think are very good points.
1. There is a fine line between failure and success.
2. Go for singles, instead of home runs.
3. Don’t screw your partners.
